Favorite Picture: Last night James had a project in an art show fundraiser type thang at Goldman Sachs. It was something he made at summer camp, so I expected it to be a casual affair. Nope. It was super fancy! So fancy it made me wish I had suggested he change out of his torn hoodie. Unfortunately I didn’t bring my real camera, but here’s James with a life size poster of himself on the building outside. I told him we might have to go back with the real camera this weekend to get an in focus shot. He says he’s good with what we got.
Favorite Book: I need to turn this section into book instead of favorite book, because I keep posting things I haven’t read yet. But I’m supposed to read THIS for book club. I am blushing already. Apparently it’s everything I need to know to become my child’s go-to person about S-E-X. You guys, I can’t. I mean I will. But I don’t wanna.
Favorite Quote: Mariyah is at that age where she gets very excited about every single holiday. She could hardly contain her excitement about Veterans day this passed week and brought it up numerous times, such as Tuesday evening…
Mariyah: Did you know tomorrow is a special day?
Me: Yes it is! We get to think about and honor all those people who have served in the military over the years.
Mariyah: The military?
Me: Yes, the people who protect our country.
Mariyah: I didn’t know veterinarians could protect our country AND our pets!
The best part was the enthusiasm she said this with. So genuinely surprised and excited about the idea. Don’t worry, we had a pretty thorough history lesson.
Favorite Video (or song): I. Love. This. The whole thing is so good. I keep thinking of my high school English teacher who would rant on and on about how nothing in Ironic was actually Ironic. She told us this every day for a week. Then on our test she asked for an example of irony, and being the charming students that we were, a bunch of us intentionally put Ironic lyrics just to give her guff. I believe I said “Irony: Ten thousand spoons when all you need is a knife.” I like to think somewhere out there good ol’ Ms Vess feels a little vindicated about this updated line “It’s singing Ironic but there are no ironies.” Her students may have been jerks, but at least Alanis understands the true meaning of irony. Who would have thought it figures.
If the new Alanis’s put you in the mood to see the old Alanis’s, this will save you 7 seconds of googling. And also make you understand why MTV doesn’t show music videos anymore. Because awkward.
Favorite Recipe: I’ve been looking for a go to dinner roll recipe. I want one I can whip up easily at the last minute. I kind of love rolls, plus when a meal feels a little plain, they add that extra oomph. These Mozzarella Stuffed Dinner Rolls are perfect!
